The hospital treatment at Tavad has 100% success in detoxification
The use of cocaine damages connections and functions of brain cells, as agreed by scientists, specialists and institutions all over the world. These alterations, in areas like the lateral orbifrontal cortex, make it difficult for the user to make decisions completely freely. This is why they continue to use cocaine despite the magnitude of personal, family, work or social losses that this habit creates.
The detoxification treatment at Tavad maximises the recovery of the aforementioned alterations, in the hospital, by applying the most advanced pharmacology and the most modern psychotherapeutic techniques, capable of detecting and neutralising those factors which could lead to new lesion.
During the whole treatment process, which lasts a year, we monitor the patient and their family. The hospitalisation phase begins when the patient arrives at the hospital, at ten o’ clock in the morning. After taking blood and urine samples for analysis, the necessary administrative tasks are completed and the patient is accompanied to their room. They stay there for two days, attended to by a doctor and a psychologist, who are in charge of studying and evaluating the patient’s functions, from the biochemical to the conscience. Three weeks after being discharged from the hospital, the patient is admitted again for another day, with the aim of reinforcing their treatment and confirming their recovery through new medical and psychological controls. The aim is to eliminate cocaine withdrawal and bring back a feeling of well-being.
The progress made in these two days of hospitalisation is very significant and, in a high percentage of patients the change is drastic. During these first 48 hours signs of the illness return to normal, for example, those linked with abstinence, depression, anxiety, sleep and appetite. Thus, the patient experiences an improvement in mood and a significant recovery of their intellectual functions.
At the time of discharge from the hospital the patient receives a report explaining the treatment that has been carried out and returns to their own environment, where they continue to receive medical and psychological support from our professionals for one year. The psychotherapy sessions of cognitive-behavioural orientation are carried out on a one-to-one or family basis, if necessary. A weekly session will be set up for the first three months, fortnightly for the following six months and monthly for the last three months.
This last out-patient stage of the treatment can take place in several cities in Spain, amongst them, Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Murcia, Logroño, Salamanca y Castellón.
